Bibendum focuses on regionality and premium Pinot Noir at Wines of Chile Annual Tasting - 03/08/2010
Bibendum will be showing wines from Valdivieso, Chilcas Estate and VC Family Estates at the Wines of Chile Tasting at the Royal Horticultural Halls on 8th September. VC Family Estates will be pouring brands including Gracia, Porta, Agustinos, Veranda, Rio Bio Bio and Gia Sur.
Attending Winemakers
Attending winemakers include Brett Jackson (Valdivieso), Rodrigo Romero (Agustinos), Marcela Chandia (Gracia and Veranda) and Rafael Tirado (Chilcas Estate).
Regionality
This line-up reinforces the regionality message that is at the heart of the tasting. Bibendum will be showing wines from no less than eight of Chile's wine valleys: Leyda, Rapel, Cachapoal, Colchagua, Maule, Bio Bio, Casablanca and Aconcagua. Look out for Bibendum's wines on the Regional Focus Tables as well as on the brands' own stands.
A particular focus for Bibendum this year is cool climate regions such as Bio Bio, where grapes like Pinot Noir are flourishing, creating a new identity for premium Chilean wines. VC Family Estates have pioneered top class winemaking in Bio Bio, working with ex- Domaine de la Vougeraie vigneron Pascal Marchand to produce a range of outstanding wines including Veranda Oda Pinot Noir (RRP £25).
Focus on Pinot Noir
The superb quality of Chilean Pinot Noir at all price points is demonstrated by no less than five Bibendum wines at the tasting: Valdivieso Pinot Noir 2009, Chilcas Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2009, Agustinos Reserva Privada Pinot Noir 2010, Rio Bio Bio Pinot Noir 2009 and the Veranda Oda Pinot Noir 2009.
The combination of new, cool climate regions, top winemaking talent such as Pascal Marchand and Valdivieso's New Zealand-born Brett Jackson; and an ever-increasing understanding of which terroirs best suit the variety means that Chilean Pinot Noir is increasingly a better (and better value) option that more established New World Pinot Noirs from New Zealand and the USA.
