Chateau Palmer Wine Dinner

Date: 4 November 2009

Price: £325

Venue: The Sandeman Room, The Don Restaurant, The Courtyard, 20 St. Swithins Lane, London EC4N 8AD

We are delighted that Thomas Duroux, General Manager of Chateau Palmer, is coming to London to host an intimate wine dinner for Bibendum's private clients. Chateau Palmer is out of the outstanding properties in Bordeaux, matched only by Chateau Margaux in Margaux and is nearly always one of our favourite wines in any given vintage.

This dinner is an amazing opportunity to taste some of the finest wines Palmer has ever produced and to enjoy them in the company of one of Bordeaux's most engaging and eloquent speakers.

The dinner will take place in the old Sandeman Port cellars at The Don restaurant in the City and we will match the wines to a specially designed three course menu. Numbers for this fantastic dinner are very limited and tickets cost £325 per person.

We will start the evening with two vintages of the Chateau's second wine, Alter Ego de Palmer from 2004 and 2000 before moving on to 5 vintages of the Grand Vin. The line-up will be:

  • Chateau Palmer 2000

"...a great Palmer that should rival the best of recent vintages, which have all been stunning." 96pts, Robert Parker

  • Chateau Palmer 1996

"...impressively saturated purple color, in addition to a backward yet intense nose of black plums, currants, licorice, and smoke." 91pts, Robert Parker

  • Chateau Palmer 1989

"...one of the vintage's great successes.... It may turn out similar to this estate's brilliant 1962 and 1953." 95pts, Robert Parker

  • Chateau Palmer 1983

"I remain convinced that the 1983 will be the most powerful Palmer since the compelling 1961." 97pts, Robert Parker

  • Chateau Palmer 1966

"The 1966 continues to be one of the greatest examples of Palmer I have ever tasted." 96pts, Robert Parker
